Overview

Join us as a Contract ED Physician at the GV (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center located in Jackson, MS.

Who we are: Monterey is a Veterans Affairs (VA) Verified Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB). We graduated from the SBA 8(a) Program and have a variety of contracts available for use.

What we do: Monterey teams with general practice, specialists, and allied health practitioners nationwide to provide local coverage for examinees. We deliver a wide range of medical examination-only services to public sectors and the individuals they serve. Our clients include the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), the Department of Labor, the Department of Defense, and more. Our provider network consists of over 700 providers in various medical specialties and degree types. They conduct diagnostic-only examination services on an as-needed basis. These services may take place in their private office, established clinics located across the country, or during travel opportunities for group screening events.

Specific Skills
  • Experience. Minimum 1-year emergency medicine experience preferred.
Responsible For

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Follow EM practice that is consistent and in line with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Model for the Clinical Practice of EM and emergent care that is congruent with the facility's capabilities.
  • Support and participation by EDs in the existing EMS system and provision of medical direction for the patients in the pre-hospital setting, where appropriate.
  • Supervise, teach, and evaluate performance of medical and paramedical personnel including students, residents, and fellows in the ED.
  • Must be competent in performing the following:
    • Arterial punctures for blood testing and cannulation for blood pressure monitoring.
    • Emergency Vascular Access.
    • Non-emergent and emergent airway management including mechanical ventilation, subject to the requirements of VHA Directive 2012-032, Out of Operating Room Airway Management (OOORAM) or successor Directive.
    • Lumbar puncture.
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation including cardioversion/defibrillation and transcutaneous pacing.
    • Gastric lavage.
    • Wound management.
    • The use of local anesthesia and for moderate sedation.
    • Foreign body removal.
    • Incision and drainage.
    • Wound repair.
    • Foley catheter placement.
    • Epistaxis control.
    • Fracture/dislocation - initial management, including splints.
    • Cervical Spine immobilization.
    • Administration of thrombolytic therapy.
    • Rapid sequence intubation/airway management.

Schedule: ED hours 7A-5:30P, Mon-Fri.  24/7 call coverage required.

Period of Performance: 12 months, June 30th 2025-June 29th 2026.

Additional Requirements
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Complete an online onboarding process.
  • May be required to complete a probationary period.
  • Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Educational Requirements
  • Education. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Licensure and certification. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Must be board-certified.
