Join us as a Psychiatrist at the Bath VA Medical Center located in Bath, NY.  Part of the VA Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP).

Who we are: Monterey is a Veterans Affairs (VA) Verified Service-Disabled, Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB). We graduated from the SBA 8(a) Program and have a variety of contracts available for use.

What we do: Monterey teams with general practice, specialists, and allied health practitioners nationwide to provide local coverage for examinees. We deliver a wide range of medical examination-only services to public sectors and the individuals they serve. Our clients include the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), the Department of Labor, the Department of Defense, and more. Our provider network consists of over 700 providers in various medical specialties and degree types. They conduct diagnostic-only examination services on an as-needed basis. These services may take place in their private office, established clinics located across the country, or during travel opportunities for group screening events.

Responsible For

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform physician services on an outpatient basis.
  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations on Veterans who suffer from depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse and other psychiatric disorders using a patient-centered team approach.
  • Provides a full range of contemporary, evidence-based therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, mental status examination, psychotherapy, medication evaluation & management.
  • Provides care in various clinical settings, including outpatient, telehealth, residential, and consultation-liaison.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in support of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Team with responsibilities of providing clinical education, coordinating consultations and triaging specialty clinic referrals.
  • Participates effectively in multidisciplinary treatment planning conferences and team meetings and collaborates with staff to facilitate the coordinated delivery of comprehensive patient care.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and consultations and incorporates the findings in the medical decision-making process relevant to the patient's individual needs.
  • Participates in supervision and teaching in support of the VA mission and provides on-call coverage and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures all clinical care is delivered in accordance with local policies and procedures in context of TJC, CARF, HIPAA, APA and VA standards.

Anticipated schedule: Full-time, 7:30A-4P M-F.

  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Must pass TB test.
  • Complete and online onboarding process.
  • Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Educational Requirements
  • Education. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Licensure and certification. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. BC/BE in Psychiatry preferred.
  • Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b. OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
